Goal
Putah Creek Cleanup Day is almost here. On Saturday, September 16, community volunteers came together to clean several areas along the floodplain, channel, and adjacent roadways of Putah Creek. This is the largest volunteer event organized by Putah Creek Council each year, but is only a small fraction of the volunteerism that takes place each year on the third Saturday in September. We will be joining with thousands of volunteers throughout California and over half a million internationally to remove trash littering our waterways and beaches! In 2016, 168 volunteers came together to clean a total of 4300 pounds of trash and recyclables from Putah Creek alone.
This year, Putah Creek Council coordinated volunteer cleanup groups at several sites along Putah Creek, including Winters Putah Creek Nature Park, Dry Creek tributary, Putah Creek Road, and Stevenson Bridge. Cleanup volunteers will gather at 9 am at Winters Rotary Park and spread out to cleanup sites from there. In addition to collecting and properly disposing of trash, volunteers will record trash collected on datasheets provided by the Coastal Commission.
