What Are Dri-Fit Shirts?

Dri-Fit fabric is technically a Nike trademark that has become a proprietary eponym for performance shirts or athleticwear shirts. Dri-Fit is moisture-wicking technology designed by Nike that utilizes fabric produced with polyester microfibers to move moisture from the skin to the outside of the apparel where it can evaporate.

Moisture-wicking microfiber technology isn’t new and Nike wasn’t the first company to develop this technology. Breathable, sweat-wicking polyester fabric is believed to have been first developed by an American company called Invista (the creator of Coolmax shirts) in 1986. However, as one of the largest athletic apparel brands in the world, Nike’s Dri-Fit has risen to become the standard for performance fabric.

The Benefits Of Dri-Fit Shirts

There are many benefits dri-fit shirts provide that make them the apparel of choice for athletes and active individuals. The differences between performance shirts and other shirts are very stark and noticeable.

Moisture-Wicking

The main benefit of Dri-Fit and performance shirts is that they keep you dry while active. Shirts that aren’t optimized for performance will absorb and retain moisture as you sweat. Dri-Fit shirts still absorb moisture from your skin, but they then pull the moisture to the outer layer of the fabric to be evaporated. This unique fabric keeps you dry as you move instead of keeping you drenched in your sweat.

UV Protection

Believe it or not, Dri-Fit shirts can provide better sun protection than sunscreen. Sunscreen is only designed to block UVB rays while performance clothing can block UVB and UVA rays. UVA rays are the sun rays that penetrate deeper into your skin to cause aging effects. You should still use sunscreen, but performance shirts can provide additional protection from the sun.

Bacterial Growth Prevention

Bacteria thrive and multiply in moist and humid environments. Shirts that absorb and hold sweat become a breeding ground for bacteria. Dri-Fit shirts wick moisture away to prevent bacteria growth.

Fade & Shrink Resistant

Shirts used for physical activities tend to be washed more frequently because they get dirtier more often. Constant washing can lead to fading or shrinking. However, polyester performance shirts are more resistant to shrinking than cotton or wool and will hold their shape longer. Polyester is also designed to be anti-fading. The fibers hold onto color better to resist fading.

Ways To Customize Your Performance T-Shirts

One of the benefits of designing custom t-shirts is getting to create shirts that match the look and style you envisioned. Good Ink offers several different ways to customize shirts to ensure that we’re able to deliver on your vision. Our team can recommend the best customization method when you request a quote if you’re not sure what would be best for your use case or design.

Printed Ink

Printed ink is the most common way to customize performance tees. Good Ink can use screen printing or simulated process printing to print your custom design onto active-wear shirts. We offer several different types of ink, including plastisol, glow ink, and water base ink.

Full-Color Transfers/Performance Vinyl

In some situations, full-color digital transfer prints allow a greater depth in color and work better for a performance garment. Similarly, we can decorate with stretch-proof performance vinyl that is made specifically for active apparel.

Dye Sublimation

Good Ink offers fully custom performance gear that can be printed with sublimation, an all-over print that can be tuned to your exact specifications.

Custom Dri-Fit Shirt FAQs

Have questions about our Dri-Fit shirts? We’ve featured answers to some of the most common questions we receive below. Our team is always available to answer any other questions you may have. You can fill out a contact form to ask our team a question about our Dri-Fit shirts.

Are Dri-Fit Shirts Better Than Cotton Shirts?

The answer to this question depends on your personal preferences and how you intend to use the shirt. Dri-Fit shirts aren’t inherently better than cotton shirts, but they can be a better option for outdoor excursions and physical activity. Dri-Fit shirts will do a better job of keeping you dry and protecting you from the sun than cotton shirts will. Dri-Fit shirts also don’t stain as easily as cotton shirts and they retain their shape better. If you plan to do a lot of movement, then you may want to consider a Dri-Fit shirt over a cotton shirt.

Is There A Minimum Order Quantity For Dri-Fit Shirts?

Good Ink does have a required minimum order quantity for custom Dri-Fit shirts. The minimum order quantity can vary depending on the complexity of your design and your chosen customization method. Our minimum order quantity for Dri-Fit shirts starts at 10. Our team will provide a minimum order quantity for your design when you request a quote

Are There Any Design Limitations For Custom Performance Shirts?

We want to provide you with the best custom shirts at the best price, which means there are some design considerations you should be aware of. The design you send us should be at least 300 DPI in resolution. Any resolution lower than 300 DPI runs the risk of looking pixelated or blurry when printed. We can help you convert your design to 300 DPI at no cost.

We can print designs with many different colors, but we recommend utilizing just one to two colors for your design. The more colors you use in your design, the more expensive it will be to print. Using one to two colors in your design keeps your costs low.
