The Outdoor Discovery Center Macatawa Greenway (ODCMG) is a 501(c)(3) conservation and education organization that has delivered education programs to West Michigan since 2000. In that time, the ODCMG has served more than 500,000 participants with hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that incorporate the natural environment. The ODCMG now serves 45,000 program participants annually and manages more than 1,200 acres on the Macatawa Greenway, 50,000 more visit ODCMG sites each year to walk the trails and view the wildlife.
The ODCMG is home to 19 birds of prey, including falcons, hawks, eagles, owls and turkey vultures. These birds came to us through local wildlife rehabilitators and are unable to be released to the wild due to a permanent injury. They are ambassadors of their species and are used for numerous educational programs and events, both on and off-site, throughout the year. Caring for these birds is wonderful, but is a lot of work and costs add up quickly. Throughout the year, our animals eat over 10,000 mice, rats or chicks! We also encourage natural behavior through enrichment items such as bones, food “puzzles” and more. Since our birds do not have to hunt for their food, these items help keep them physically and mentally fit.
The proceeds from these shirts will help support the care of these magnificent animals and we hope that you come and visit them soon!
